The Art of Post-Production
Preserving the Richness of Nigerian Skin Tones
Beyond ‘Presets’: A technical masterclass in protecting melanin, warmth, and depth in every frame.
The most common error in wedding photography is ‘over-processing’ dark skin. At Dare Photography, we believe in Skin Integrity. Our editing process ensures that the golden, bronze, and deep mahogany undertones of Nigerian heritage are celebrated, never muted or ‘ashed’ out.
Luminance over Exposure
Instead of raising global exposure (which can wash out skin), we target the Orange and Red Luminance channels. This creates a ‘glow’ from within the skin while keeping the background rich.
Subtractive Saturation
To protect the vibrancy of Aso-Ebi without making skin look ‘orange’, we use subtractive saturation in the shadows to maintain deep, natural blacks and browns.
The ‘Melanin Glow’ Workflow
- White Balance Calibration: We shoot custom Kelvin temperatures (5500K-6000K) to ensure the natural warmth of the ceremony is captured in-camera.
- Tone Curve Precision: We avoid ‘crushing’ the blacks. A lifted black point ensures detail in hair and dark fabrics is always visible.
- Selective Color Grading: We add subtle ‘Teal’ to shadows to complement the ‘Orange/Gold’ of skin tones, creating a cinematic, high-end look.
